2) Soak the lentils and kidney beans in 4 cups of water overnight.
3) The next day, drain the water and rinse the lentils and beans again.
4) In a pressure cooker, add the lentils and beans and 4 cups of water.
5) Cook on high heat for 10 minutes and then reduce the heat to low and cook for another 20 minutes or until the lentils and beans are fully cooked and soft.
6) In a separate pan, heat the butter over medium heat.
7) Add cumin seeds to the butter and let it sizzle for a few seconds.
8) Add the finely chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they are golden brown.
9) Add the ginger garlic paste and sauté for a few more minutes.
10) Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
11) Add the cooked lentils and beans to the pan and mix well.
12) Add salt to taste.
13) Add 1/2 cup of heavy cream to the pan and mix well.
14) Let the Dal Makhni simmer for 10-15 minutes until it thickens and the flavors are well blended.
